~1933 Voigtländer Bergheil Deluxe
The pattern-textured leather covering dates this Bergheil camera to the early 1930's, however the serial number of the Compur shutter dates to 1927 and the Heliar 10.5cm/f4.5 lens to 1929! Probably not a big mystery because it has an exchangeable lens/shutter unit, attached via a bayonet so lenses and shutters likely got changed around between different cameras over time, not unlike SLRs today. Bergheil was one of the first cameras used by photographer Halász Gyula (Brassaï) in the 1920's to 1930's for his famous photos of Paris by night and by Lyonel Feininger for his 1928-1939 famous multiple exposures and dramatic contrasts of architectural and street scenes.
